F.A.Q.
Frequently Axed Questions

If you have any questions regarding our products, services or policies, feel free to Ask Us A Question

Q: Where is my nearest Mountain Surf dealer?

A: Mountain Surf has moved to a new location on the Ottawa river in Beachburg, Ontario, Canada.
While we normally support local dealers and the servfice only they can provide, we will be selling direct through our website, phone and at our location at 2495Grants Settlement rd across from the put in to the ottawa river.

Q: How do I find my size?

A: For clothing, check the product sizing guide. For whitewater sprayskirts, check the whitewater fit list. For touring sprayskirts, check the touring fit list. For custom orders, inquire with Mountain Surf at 613-582-3839.

Q: I want Mountain Surf stickers! How do I get some?

A: We put a sticker on the hangtag of every product we sell and give them and other good schwag away at paddling events all over the country. If you would like more stickers, please send one dollar for shipping and handling to Mountain Surf at PO box 396 Beachburg, ontario K0J 1C0 Canada..

Q: Are the closeouts blemished or damaged in any way?

A: The closeouts are first quality. The only reason that they are being closed out is that we have changed the designs or colors and these are last year's models.

Q: Which sprayskirt size is appropriate for my kayak?

A: For whitewater sprayskirts, check the whitewater fit list. For touring sprayskirts, check the touring fit list. For custom orders, inquire with Mountain Surf at 613-582-3839. Generally, you will only need to provide two measurements: (1) a measurement from the small of your back to the outside of the rim at the back for barrel placement and (2) your waist measurement for barrel size. However, we may need cockpit measurements or a tracing to assure a proper fit. Before ordering, consider how tight you would like the seal - bombproof skirts will be drier and secure but harder to put on.

Q: What is the difference between bombproof and EZ-ON?

A: We offer Dur-O-Ring sprayskirts in both bombproof and EZ-ON fits for any cockpit size. The bombproof dur-O-Ring (red ripcord) is designed for those paddlers demanding the most from their skirt. It is the drier and most secure stock skirt available. We make no apologies for the bombproof being very stiff going on and off, but this is what the pros swear by when it counts. Most paddlers don't need or want a skirt this tight. The EZ-On Dur-O-Ring (gold ripcord) is identical to the bombproof but has more elasticity in the rand allowing the skirt to go on and off with less effort. The EZ-ON skirt will perform flawlessly under all but the most violent conditions.

Q: What is the difference between the G-Skirt and Dur-O-Ring skirts?

A: The G-Series skirts are the brand new offering from Mountain Surf. Our G-Skirts are the highest performance bungee cord skirts on the market. They are easier to put on than our traditional Dur-O-Ring and are less expensive. The G Skirts will work for both plastic and glass boats. Our best-selling Dur-O-Ring skirt is a hybrid of the legendary Lindberdeck and O-ring sprayskirts, combining the articulated deck with the bombproof mechanical fit and hydraulic seal of our unique O-ring brand. The O-Ring rubber rand is the most effective seal on the market for plastic boat rims with the only shape that effeciently seals the profile of plastic cockpit rims. The Dur-O-Ring includes a highly abrasion-resistant knit aramid laminate that significantly improves skirt durability at the high-wear area directly over the cockpit rim.

Q: How does Aramid fiber differ from Kevlar?

A: Aramid is the generic term for the fiber. We just can''t use the copywrited name without charging you 7% more for your skirt. By weight, the fiber is 5 times stronger than steel

Q: Occasionally, my sprayskirt seems harder to put on? Why? Can I stretch the skirt?

A: The material in any sprayskirt will stiffen as the temperature drops making the skirt harder to put on. The skirt will also stiffen when used infrequently. To counter this problem, the skirt should be used as much as possible. In addition, the skirt may be \\\'lubed\\\' with water, and will typically loosen after a few hours of paddling. *Do not* attempt to stretch the skirt other than on your kayak - the seal was designed not to stretch out over time and deliberate overstretching can cause rand failure and void your warranty.

Q: Why don\'t you put knee-straps on your skirts?

A: We do offer knee straps on all of our skirts as a custom option. There is no additional charge for knee straps on G-Skirts, but there is an additional charge on all other models. A knee strap works best on bungee cord skirts or low-tension sprayskirts and can not be relied on to kick off a more secure Rubber randed skirt. Check John Mason\'s Relationship Counseling for Skirts and Kayaks for further information.

Q: What is the difference between the Lindberdeck and the Fatlip Sealskin?

A: The Lindberdeck was designed for a dry, secure and removeable fit on the cockpit rims of composite (glass) boats. The Fatlip Sealskin Sprayskirt was designed for Jim Snyder\'s convoluscent cockpit rims manufactured by PS Composites and Murky Water boatworks(squirtboat cockpits that dip between the knees), and is hands down the best skirt made for squirtboats.

Q: What is Mountain Surf's warranty policy?

A: We have an excellent warranty and reputation for standing behind our products. We warranty against defects in material and workmanship for the reasonable life of the product. We do not warranty against abrasion and impact damage although we generally do repairs for this kind of abuse for a minimal charge. Note that most products must be visually inspected before being warrantied. Warranty items will then be repaired or replaced at our option at no charge except for return shipping of $12.00

Q: What is Mountain Surf's repair policy?

A: Mountain Surf will repair items due to normal wear and tear, accident, abrasion, and abuse for a reasonable charge.

Q: How do I return an item for warranty or repair?
